About us and our mission

Pipe Organs in Portugal (OTemPo - orgaosdetubos.pt - Cultural Association) was born from the movement created in 2020 by the Keyboard professors of Orfeão de Leiria and friends, with the aim of cataloging and recording, in audio and video, the instrumental and musical organ heritage present in Portugal, with a high standard of quality.

The current association maintains this core mission and expands into other areas:

  • Promotion of historical keyboard instruments found in Portugal, with particular emphasis on organs, but also harpsichords, fortepianos, harmoniums, clavichords, etc., through comprehensive audiovisual and photographic documentation, as well as technical documentation and historical context.

  • Video recordings of solo keyboard repertoire, with special emphasis on 16th to 18th-century keyboard repertoire for organ, but not exclusively. Recording of works for ensembles that include keyboard instruments.

  • Support for new musical compositions for these instruments and ensembles that include them, with recording, publishing, and promotion of these works.

  • Promoting the dissemination, contact, and interaction of this heritage with younger generations and the general public.

  • Creation of multimedia content for the artistic promotion of our heritage, as well as pedagogical and culturally and academically useful content.

  • Publicizing the activity and the people from the north to the south of the country, including the islands, who keep this heritage alive in Portugal.

  • International exchanges to share national and international organ heritage.
