#004 | Pipe Organ of the Santa Maria de Semide Monastery
Coimbra District
This instrument was built by Manuel Teixeira de Miranda, father of António Xavier Machado e Cerveira, who completed it, exactly as happened with the Great Organ of the Monastery of Lorvão. A family of renowned organ builders from the second half of the 18th century and the first half of the 19th century. It is believed to have been built around 1793, as it shows characteristics from the beginning of the three periods of Machado Cerveira's construction. It was in the early 21st century that it underwent a profound restoration by organ builder Dinarte Machado, who brought it to a state believed to be very faithful to its original. It is a very versatile instrument, as it serves liturgical purposes while also having the ability to perform organ repertoire. It is one of the reference instruments of Portuguese organ building.
